Credit, because a real economy has it, and debt is the world's motif.

The rules
A Loan is a split-stick item: lender keeps one half, borrower the other; terms (amount, due Vesper, collateral item or Hold share) are on both halves; the Ledger records it.
On the due Vesper the engine settles from the borrower's bank; shortfall seizes collateral; if uncollateralized, the borrower is Owing (a Ledger badge) and a bounty equal to the debt is auto-posted, claimable by anyone who delivers the debtor's unbanked loot to the lender. Debt makes the world hunt you; this is Vesperan.
Mercantile levels raise the number of open Loans a lender may hold and the interest they may charge (capped).
