You wake in the Margin with hands and a Waystone. Stone and deadwood are gatherable barehanded; the first tool is a stone axe from Woodwright 1; the Margin's keystones are rich and ungated (ADR-019).
No NPC sells anything. NPCs give quests, lore, labor to owe, and Tolls to accept. Vendors do not exist in the engine.
All finished goods are crafted by players. Bosses and mobs drop parts, cores, relics, Ink, and gold; crafters turn them into gear. A unique is a core (1 of 1) forged by a crafter with the right hand; the crafter's name is in its Lineage forever.
Gold exists (drops, Ink-scaled by floor) but is one currency among labor, Ink, keystones, and Loans. Sinks are the world's, never a vendor's: Tolls, Waystone fees, Binding upkeep, upgrading Ink, Exchange tax, Charter and Maker's Mark registration, Hold levies to the spire.
