Gold enters only from the world's wages: Warden and creature drops (the pen paid its creatures), Toll rebates (the Waystone returns a share of Tolls as coin to the floor's workers), and the Ledger's weekly stipend to Title holders. It leaves through Waystone fees, Exchange taxes, Loan interest to no one (interest paid to the Waystone is destroyed), repairs, inn rents, and Ink purchases with gold. Flavor. The coins are struck with a line, not a face; nobody in the world knows who minted them; Old Maren says the pen "paid in advance."
